TSX edges up on U.S. holiday

Bay Street volumes were predictably light as the Wall Street celebrated the fourth of July, though the TSX inched 0.11% higher. Only financials showed any weakness and that was modest. Staples, telcos and utilities led all other sectors higher.
There were few outsized moves apart from Goeasy sliding 9.95%. Elsewhere, Power Corp rose 0.59%, Innergex Renewable 2.2%, Algoma Steel 2.09% and Royal Bank made an intraday high and closed 0.23% higher. WTI remained above US$84 and gold held round US$2,353, both showing little movement. U.S. markets reopen tomorrow.
