TSX edges up during U.S. holiday
With Wall Street closed for American Thanksgiving, the TSX was predictibly quiet on Thursday, inching up 0.22% in light trading. Real estate, materials and tech enjoyed the biggest gains while energy partially gave back recent advances.
The biggest movers included Morguard REIT at 6.63%, Osisko Mining at 6.51%, and Polaris Infrastucture at 5.65%. The recovery trade continued to benefit names like Cineplex which advanced 4.12%. Platinum Group Metals soared 10.2% after issuing its 2020 annual report. On the downside, Brookfield Asset Management slipped 2.53%, Cenovus Energy lost 2.13% and Northern Dynasty Minerals plunged 10.78%.
The latter sell-off was triggered after the U.S. Army rejected a permit for the company’s Pebble mine in Alaska. In other commodities, the price of WCS oil leapt 4% as WTI fell 1.5%. Gold climbed nearly 0.5% for the day.
