Miners lead TSX up
Per tradition, the NYSE was closed Thursday in honour of Jimmy Carter, who served as U.S. President from 1977 to 1981. As Mr. Carter was laid to rest, the TSX resumed business as usual by climbing 0.16% or 40 points. Sectors were mixed as materials outshone all while telcos lagged the most.
Major movers for the session were Lundin Gold up 5.9%, Capstone Copper 4.89%, NFI Group -2.59%, Bombardier -2.57%, Equinox Gold 4.19% and First Quantum Minerals 4.11%. Meanwhile, gold itself advanced US$7 to US$2,669 an ounce while WTI rose 1.25% to US$74.25. The Canadian dollar continued to hover around 70 cents against its U.S. counterpart. The NYSE reopens Friday.
