TSX soars to high, Wall Street falls

The TSX returned to business on Tuesday and ripped 2.03% or 549 points higher to a record close of 25,750. All 11 sectors rallied, led by materials, tech and health care. In fact, the biggest gainers were miners: Kinross Gold by 11.99%, Denison Mines 9.25% Eldorado Gold 9.24% and Novagold Resources 9.2%. Gold itself climbed US$6 to US$3,379 while WTI sank 1.7% to US$65.15. In the headlines were June Canadian imports rising 1.4% while exports increased 0.9% to widen the trade deficit.
It was a different story across the border as the ISM services index was flat for June, stoking fears of stagflation. Meanwhile, Trump warned that tariffs on semis and pharmas were coming. Altogether, the news sank American stocks: the S&P -0.49%, the Dow -0.14% and the Nasdaq -0.65%. Major movers included Vertex at -20.6%, Nvidia -0.97%, Fidelity National -8.54%, Coinbase -6.34% and Palantir up 7.85%. The U.S. 10-year yield remained at 4.2%, but Bitcoin slipped US$910 to US$113,900.
