S&P and Nasdaq hit highs
The week ended with the S&P and Nasdaq modestly rallying to new highs, the former by 0.23% and the latter at 0.78%. Over the week, they gained nearly 1% and 3.3% respectively. The Dow closed Friday -0.3% and -0.6% for the week.
Big movers for the session included Lululemon which soared 15.84% on earnings, Hewlett Packard 10.99%, Ulta Beauty 8.95% and Super Micro Computer 7% while Nvidia was the most-active name at -1.89%. Bitcoin crossed $101,000 after popping 2.3% while the U.S. 10-year yield held at 4.151%. Friday’s slightly higher-than-expected jobless numbers suggest the Fed will cut rates at their next meeting.
In Canada, the TSX added 19 points for the day, but touched a record 25,826 early in the session. The TSX rose 0.17% for the week. Major movers: CNQ -2.1%, Suncor -1.16%, Torex Gold -11.78%, BRP 6.91% and TransAlta 6.47%. Tech was the most positive sector while energy and materials led most sectors down. WTI sank 1.65% to US$67.20 while gold held around US$2,633.
