Flat TSX on Turkey Day
With Wall Street closed for American Thanksgiving, it was business as usual on Bay Street, albeit with volumes at 20% of normal. The TSX added a handful of points and was flat for Thursday. Sectors were mixed as consumer staples lagged the most while industrials showed the most strength. WTI crude continued to sink as the market waits for OPEC+ to meet on Nov. 30 instead fo next Sunday. WTI declined 1% to $76.35.
Notable names included Slate Office REIT rallying 3.53%, Corus adding 3.77%, Cineplex closing at -4.9%, Empire -3.55% after an analyst downgrade, and Western Copper and Gold surging 5.36%. Canadian Traders took a breather on Thursday, but are expecting crucial bank earnings next week. Meanwhile, Wall Street will close early tomorrow.
