Market Outlook He thinks this virus scare will likely be a short-lived one, much like SARS was. Towards the second-half of the year he expects a re-acceleration to the market. Cyclicals and commodities tend to do well in this environment. Unemployment and interest rates are low, which aids market growth. Add to this a Presidential election year and all things look positive, especially for stocks.

Royal Bank

RY vs TD vs SLF? He owns both of the banks and he prefers this space over the insurance sector. RY has a stronger approach on the wealth management side, whereas TD focuses on retail customers and has a larger presence in the US. Right now he would favour TD. Canadian banks of been held back as of late because of a unwarranted fear about the housing market in Canada. Dividends with the banks are great too.

Dividend safe? He does not own them. They are seeing more pressure than most in the space. Auto sales in China and the US are falling. The industry is moving more toward electric cars, so there is a lot of room for change in the sector and he wonders how Ford will adjust. The dividend looks safe and cash flow is positive. You could continue to hold it, but he would not add to this name or sector.

Take profit now? A great company that has had a great run over the last three years. Their Cloud offerings have been very well received. Tech shares have continued to run despite pullbacks in other sectors this past week. He would not sell for the sake of selling. It is prudent to take money off the table -- perhaps a 1/3 or 1/4 -- to reinvest elsewhere. Unless you have a dramatic use for the funds, you should not rush to sell all your holding.

Retail is very challenging going up against the likes of Amazon. He would not be a buyer, there are others who are more aggressive in the online space to compete and in other sectors.

Telecoms? Rogers is an interesting name. He owns BCE instead. A push for lower cell phone rates along with greater investment in 5G networks are key headwinds in this sector. Telcoms will face a lot spending to build up 5G, which will impact the financials for the next few years. He likes the dividend they pay, however. If your time horizon is long, then holding is fine.

In the funeral space, they have done a good job diversifying into the US and how to integrate acquisitions. You could hold for the long term. The management team is aware how to build the business in a patient way. All things firing here.

He does not own this one. There will be more senior needs going forward, so they are well positioned. A positive longer term story. He owns different REITs instead. Watch were interest rates are going as changes in expectations can change valuations. A good investment for the long term time horizon.

Over a 2-5 year time horizon, this will do fine, especially following the acquisition of Raytheon. This will diversify their business into the defense space. With low interest rates and good economic growth, this will be a good long term hold in the industrial space.

They are focused on the drug side of health care. There is a lot pressure on costs and from a political perspective as well. The company has had a great run as of late, but drugs can be very volatile. He generally favors the equipment and insurance sectors in health care.
