The retail grocery business in Canada had a very hard time because Wal-Mart (WMT-N) and other US chains really had expanded their grocery business. Last year, for the 1st time, that expansion really slowed down, which was a positive for companies like this. However, the Sobeys/Safeway merger didn’t go smoothly. This may have taken the focus off the core Sobeys’ business, which had to drop their prices in Western Canada. That is going to put pressure on the whole retail grocery sector. The food business in general is a good business. Also, feels low energy prices are going to be a positive for them. Still trading at historically high levels and is somewhat overvalued.

Boston Pizza Royalties (BPF.UN-T) or Brookfield Property Partners (BPY.UN-T)? 2 very disparate companies. Boston Pizza has a very strong yield. Being a royalty, it pays out a lot of its earnings back to investors. This one doesn’t have as big a dividend, but perhaps more room to grow it. He would tend to own the one that has the opportunity to grow its earnings. If he had to pick one of the 2, he would go with this.

This has been closing some of their lower performing stores in order to increase margins. Because of the difficulty that Empire (EMP.A-T) is having getting the Sobey/Safeway merger completed, they have been cutting their price, particularly in Western Canada. That will continue to put pressure on this company. Not sure this would be the stock to own right now.

Thinks there is still another wave to come in energy. While this bank doesn’t have as big an exposure as some others, he doesn’t think it has all been factored in just yet. He has been somewhat light on the banks. The one thing this has is a significant exposure to the US.

Recently bought some and still thinks it’s early days for them. This company helps with the payment structures for companies. It is in software as well as hardware, providing scanners. Expects this will have a run that will last for some time.

Has been very closely tied to the Valeant (VRX-T) situation, although it hasn’t come off as much. Also, it didn’t have quite the same issues. If there could be some resolution to the Valeant issue, you could see this one do very well. For the time being, there are more risks than potential returns.
