September ended on a weak note as the major indices in Toronto and New York closed downward, except the Nasdaq which gained 0.24%. The US-Iran war heated back up, which caused WTI crude to spike 1.33% to US$90.55 and the U.S. 10-year yield to jump to 5.3%, another 52-week high. Minerals were weak as well: silver down 1.85% to US$60.20 and gold slipping 0.65% to US$4,155.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The TSX declined 0.63% or 224 points as sectors were mixed. Telcos were the best perforrmer while healthcare and materials were the weakest.\u00a0 Dragging down materials\u00a0was First Quantum Minerals<\/a> which cratered 15.27% after the Panamanian government recommended\u00a0the closure of a mine. Meanwhile, Ivanhoe Mines<\/a> sank 2.58%, Telus<\/a> rebounded 3.28%, BlackBerry<\/a> 4.05% and Aecon<\/a> 3.42%.\u00a0In New York, the S&P slipped 0.25% and the Dow lost 0.86%. Major movers: Intel<\/a> 3.71%, Synopsys<\/a> 4.78%, Moderna<\/a> -5.35%, AppLovin<\/a> -4.98% and General Mills<\/a> -4.91%.
