Markets in New York and Toronto skidded\u00a0on Tuesday as the price of oil continued to creep towards $100 and the trade war between the U.S. and Canada weighed on investors. The S&P closed -0.58%, the Nasdaq -0.32% and the Dow -1.18% while the U.S. 10-year yield edged up to 4.788% on inflation fears. WTI leapt nearly 3% to over US$94 a barrel. Key names on Wall Street: Nvidia<\/a> -2.01%, Intel<\/a> 9.05%, PG&E<\/a> 3.64%, Tesla<\/a> 3.98% and Amgen<\/a> -10.08%. Bitcoin<\/a> slipped nearly 1% to US$78,530.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The TSX slid over 1% and nearly 400 points as tech, discretionary\u00a0and real estate led nine sectors down. Energy was unsurprisingly the best performer. Tamarack Valley Energy<\/a> rallied 3.29%, Ivanhoe Mines<\/a> 12.82%. Manulife<\/a> -2.48%, Shopify<\/a> -7.84% and Thomson Reuters<\/a> -6.84%. Silver declined -0.6% to US$65.70 and gold slipped 1% to US$4,360.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
