As peace negotiations between the U.S. and Iran broke down again, the price of oil Monday jumped as did yields while the fear of inflation looms. WTI crude rose 5.3% to US$82.20 as the U.S. 10-year yield leapt\u00a0to a 52-week high of 4.705%. By far, energy was the strongest sector on the TSX, pushing it 77 points higher to a record close of 36,458. Eight sectors lagged, led by real estate, telcos and utilities. Big movers included Suncor<\/a>, up 4.35%, International Petroleum<\/a> 8.24%, Superior Plus<\/a> -9.02%, Strathcona Resources<\/a> 8.74% and Barrick Gold<\/a> -6.45%. Gold itself rose US$49 to US$4,391 and silver rallied 3.35% to US$65.65.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In contrast, the American indices closed lower: S&P -0.06%, the Nasdaq -0.32% and the Dow -0.11%. Key movers: Marathon Petroleum<\/a> 7.42%, Intel<\/a> -4.06%, Datadog<\/a> 11.48%, Palo Alto<\/a> 5.82% and Nvidia<\/a> -2.86%. Bitcoin<\/a> sank 1.6% to US$64,660.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
