Investors continue to flock to gold as a safe harbour in these uncertain geopolitical times and pushed the mineral past US$5,000 an ounce on Monday. Gold gained US$35 to a new high of US$5,022, helping to lift the Wall Street indices: the S&P 0.5%, the Nasdaq 0.43% and the Dow 0.64%. Another driver was megatech earnings\u00a0this week and some investors are buying into the print. Major movers: Arista Networks<\/a> 5.41%, DataDog<\/a> 5%, Apple<\/a> 2.97%, Intel<\/a> -5.72% and Trade Desk<\/a> -7.5%. As the next U.S. Fed meeting looms, the U.S. 10-year yield edged down to 4.213%.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Though minerals were the strongest\u00a0sector on Bay Street, its surge couldn’t stop the TSX from fading into the close. The TSX slipped 0.16%. Only four sectors were positive. Healthcare and staples led the laggards. Major movers: Ivanhoe Mines<\/a> 4.48%, B2Gold<\/a> 1.24%, Bombardier<\/a> -9.34%, Energy Fuels<\/a> -8.46% and Novagold Resources<\/a> 5.53%. WTI slipped 0.45% to US$60.80.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
