With the U.S. government still shut down, no new economic data was released on Friday. Markets responded by extending their rally. The S&P added only 0.1% and the Dow 0.51%, both to new highs, while the Nasdaq slipped 0.28%. For the week, the S&P and Dow rose 1.1% while the Nasdaq added 1.3%. Major movers: Humana up 10.56%, Centene 5.11%, Palantir -7.47%, Las Vegas Sands -7.41% and Wynn Resorts -7.26%. Bitcoin gained 1.3% to US$122,265 while the U.S. 10-year yield held around 4.121%<\/p>\n
The TSX extended its own winning streak by 1% to 30,471, a new record close, or 2.4% for the week. Nine sectors rallied, led by tech, energy and industrials while healthcare sank. Shopify surged 6.46%, Pembina 6.03%, Vermilion Energy 5.52%, TransAlta 5.48% and Celestica -6.92%. Gold rose another US$27 to a lofty US$3,883 while WTI increased 0.45% to US$60.75.<\/p>\n
