New York and Toronto closed at record highs again, ignoring the second day of the U.S. government shutdown. As Republicans and Democrats dig in their heels, the S&P inched 0.06% higher, the Nasdaq 0.39% and the Dow 0.17%. Also closing at a new high, the TSX climbed 0.16% to 30,154.<\/p>\n
Major movers on Wall Street included Tesla, the most active name, skidding 5.11%, Fair Isaac popping 17.98%, Coinbase Global 7.48%, Equifax sinking 8.47% and Occidental Petroleum fading 7.31%. On Bay Street, eight sectors rallied, led by healthcare, discretionary and tech while energy lagged the most. Key Canadian names: Energy Fuels up 7.6%, Curaleaf 7.07%, Nutrien 5.62%, BRP 4.29% and Novagold Resources -4.06%. <\/p>\n
In commodities, gold slipped US$7 to US$3,858 and WTI sank 1.8% to US$60.65. Bitcoin rallied 2.75% to US$120,830. The U.S. 10-year yield continued to lose ground, down to 4.087%<\/p>\n
