The TSX rose 135 points to close at a new record high of 28,751. Strong gains in staples and tech led eight sectors higher, while energy led the laggards. Alimentation Couche-Tard reported a strong beat which sent its shares jumping 6.27%. Meanwhile, Celestica popped 5.84%, First Quantum Minerals 5.74%, Capstone Copper 4.04% while CNQ slid 2.34%. Gold added US$32 to a record high of US$3,565, and WTI fell 2.5% to US$63.93.<\/p>\n
Despite U.S. job vacancies inching up in July, the American indices partially regained Tuesday’s losses. The S&P rose 0.51%. the Nasdaq 1.02% and the Dow declined 0.05%. Alphabet made headlines after a U.S. court declared the company did not have to sell its Chrome browser. Therefore the deal to supply Apple’s iPhones with Google as the default search engine remains. Both classes of Alphabet soared over 9%, and Apple rallied 3.81%. In contrast, Dollar Tree tumbled 8.37% and Campbell’s sank 7.22%. The U.S. 10-year yield remained around 4.22% while Bitcoin added US$690 to US$112,115.<\/p>\n
