A rare earnings miss by Walmart<\/a> sank the giant retailer by 4.49% on Thursday and dragged the S&P down 0.4%. The Nasdaq and Dow both slid 0.34%, but the TSX rallied 0.63% or 176 points on the strength of materials and energy. In Toronto, eight sectors rose while three sectors suffered only mild losses, including health care.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Other major movers included Paramount Skydance<\/a> soaring 14.66%, Hewlett Packard<\/a> 3.71%, and both First Solar<\/a> and PG&E<\/a> both falling 6.99%. Bitcoin tumbled nearly US$2,000 to US$112,400 while the U.S. 10-year yield climbed to 4.328% on the eve of U.S. Fed Chair Jerome Powell delivering his comments on interest rates. Gold gave back US$10 to hover around US$3,338 while WTI rose 1.2% to US$63.45. On Bay Street, CNQ<\/a> rallied 2.04%, Barrick Gold<\/a> 2.99% and Baytex<\/a> 2.93% while Empire<\/a> slipped 3.04% and BRP<\/a> declined 1.65%.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
