Markets in Toronto and New York regained some of yesterday’s losses, but remained down for the week. The latest from the White House was in giving the automakers a month’s reprieve from the sweeping tariffs, but the tariff cloud continues to hang over markets. The TSX rose 1.22% as all sectors but energy gained. Materials, discretionary and tech were the biggest winners. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Key names included Bombardier<\/a> jumping 9.95%, First Quantum Minerals<\/a> 9.59%, First Majestic Silver<\/a> 7.33%, Suncor<\/a> -3.11% and Baytex<\/a> -4.68%. WTI crude sank 2.6% to US$66.50, the lowest since 2021, while gold edged up US$2 to US$2,920.<\/p>\n\n\n\n On Wall Street, the S&P advanced 1.12%, the Nasdaq 1.46% and the Dow 1.14% as materials and discretionary showed strength. Microsoft<\/a> led the Mag 7 with a 3.19% pop, Moderna<\/a> soared 15.94%, Ford<\/a> 5.81%, Palantir<\/a> 6.79%, but Crowdstrike<\/a> slid 6.34%.
