A choppy week ended on a positive note as markets in Toronto and New York rallied convincingly on Friday. All sectors were green on Bay Street as the TSX advanced 0.89% for the session and 1.2% for the week. Utilities and materials led, while TD<\/a> was the most influential, jumping 4.43% on news that the bank was accelerating its CEO and board changes by two months. Meanwhile, BCE<\/a> rose 2.01%, TC Energy<\/a> 3.1%, First Majestic Silver<\/a> 4.98% and Cameco<\/a> 4.83%. Gold declined US$12 to US$2,710 while WTI slipped 0.85% to US$78.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Once more, tech lead the way on Wall Street. The Nasdaq surged 1.51% on Friday and 2.45% for the week. The S&P climbed 1% to nearly 6,000 and advanced 2.9% for the week. Meanwhile, the Dow rose 0.78% and 3.7% for the week. Key movers: Nvidia<\/a> up 3.1%, Intel<\/a> 9.25%, Schlumberger<\/a> 6.06%, Deere<\/a> 3.72% and JB Hunt Transport<\/a> -7.83%. The U.S. 10-year yield edged up to 4.6% following a weak of cooler-than-expected inflation data, and Bitcoin hit a new high of US$104,500. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Wall Street is closed Monday to celebrate Martin Luther King. It will also be inauguration day. The TSX will be open for business as usual.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
