The TSX climbed 0.46% Wednesday to return above 25,000, mainly on strength from tech and materials. Tech led seven sectors down. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
As gold advanced US$14 to US$2,663 an ounce, Equinox Gold<\/a> popped 10.01% and Calibre Mining<\/a> jumped 9.5%. Meanwhile, Celestica<\/a> rallied 4.58%, Tilray<\/a> sank 5.69% and TD<\/a> slipped 0.71% as the most active name. WTI crude shed 1.2% to US$73.35 a barrel.<\/p>\n\n\n\n In contrast, the main indices on Wall Street narrowly escaped ending the session in the red. The S&P closed 0.11% and the Dow 0.22% after struggling for much of the day. The U.S. Fed released minutes of its December meeting which stressed fears that risks to inflation have increased, meaning fewer interest rate cuts this year than previously expected. The U.S. 10-year returned to 4.7% at one point, but faded to 4.677% by the closing bell.
