The new year began positively in both Toronto and New York, but Thursday’s session ended with the TSX up 0.69% or 170 points and the American indices down. On Bay Street, only financials were negative, and mildly so, while materials and healthcare led the remaining sectors up. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Major movers were Denison Mines<\/a> rallying 14.18%, Enbridge<\/a> 1.41%, TC Energy<\/a> 1.84%, NexGen Energy<\/a> 11.08% and Energy Fuels<\/a> 10.09%. WTI crude rose 1.9% to over US$73 a barrel as gold spiked 1.3% to US$2,658. The Canadian dollar stayed flat at $0.69 against the U.S. greenback.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Across the border, the S&P closed -0.22%, the Nasdaq -0.16% and the Dow -0.36%. Tesla made headlines when it announced its first-ever drop in annual deliveries and one of its vehicles involved in a possible terrorist attack. Tesla<\/a> shares slumped 6.08%.
