Markets extended last Friday’s losses, amid light holiday volumes. Though Wall Street climbed higher from this morning’s weakness, the S&P and Dow still finished nearly 1% lower while the Nasdaq closed -1.1%. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Once again, Nvidia<\/a> was the most active name, but outperformed most peers by climbing 1.1%. Other major movers were Palantir<\/a> at -1.81%, Tesla<\/a> -2.66%, Super Micro Computer<\/a> -3.8% and Boeing<\/a> -2.31% following South Korea’s deadliest plane crash over the weekend. Meanwhile, Bitcoin<\/a> advanced 0.9% to US$94,140 while the U.S. 10-year yield fell to 4.545%. <\/p>\n\n\n\n Canadian equities fared better on Monday as the TSX declined 0.6% or nearly 150 points. Only energy enjoyed any gains while healthcare, materials and tech led the remaining sectors down. Winners on Bay Street included Birchcliff Energy<\/a> up 5.56% and Tourmaline Oil<\/a> at 4.51%. Losers included MAG Silver<\/a> at -4.02%, Pan American Silver<\/a> -3.44% and Equinox<\/a> -3.38%. WTI crude inched 0.8% higher to US$71.20 as gold slipped US$13 to US$2,607.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Over the weekend, former U.S. President (1977-81), Jimmy Carter, passed away at the age of 100.
