The trading week began with tech driving the Nasdaq to new highs, up 1.24% to nearly 20,200. The S&P advanced 0.38% and the Dow -0.25%. Among the Wall Street influencers were Broadcom<\/a>, popping 11.21%, Tesla<\/a> 6.14% and Micron<\/a> 5.62% However, Ford<\/a> finished Monday at -3.85% and Super Micro Computer<\/a> -8.26%. The U.S. 10-year yield held just under 4.4% while Bitcoin surged more than US$3,000 to new heights just below US$105,900.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ottawa sent shockwaves through Bay Street moments before the opening bell rung when Finance Minister Chrystia Freeland announced her resignation on the same day that the Liberals were unveiling their fall economic statement. The TSX declined 0.5% for the day as only financials managed to gain (modestly). Telcos, materials and energy led the other sectors down. Major movers: BlackBerry<\/a> soared 14.88%, CNQ<\/a> -1.85%, BCE<\/a> -6.25%, Rogers<\/a> -4.4% and Baytex<\/a> -5.04%. WTI shed 1% to US$70.60 as gold added US$3 to US$2,651.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
