Shopify reported a blow-out quarter that helped lift the TSX to 25,000 Tuesday morning. The TSX closed below that mark, but still notched a 0.54% gain. Nearly all sectors lost ground as materials and energy led the laggards, though. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Shopify<\/a> itself soared 21.45%, Denison Mines<\/a> 5.26%, Enbridge<\/a> -1.29% and Barrick Gold<\/a> -2.02%. There were hints that the forthcoming administration in Washington will at least decriminalize cannabis, which sent names like Tilray<\/a> jumping 5.13% higher. Both WTI crude and gold were flat at US$68 and US$2,598 respectively. <\/p>\n\n\n\n Otherwise, it was negative day in New York. The S&P closed -0.29%, the Dow -0.86% while the Nasdaq shed a handful of points. Major movers: Nvidia<\/a> up 2.09% as the most-active name, Tesla<\/a> -6.15% to end its post-election rally, Mosaic<\/a> -7.74%, GE Vernova<\/a> -7.36% and Amgen<\/a> -7.14%.
