It was a tale of two markets on Thursday. The TSX soared 193 points in a broad rally to reach a record high of 22,544. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Leading the way were CNQ<\/a> up 1.61%, TD<\/a> 0.97%, Cenovus<\/a> 1.23%, TC Energy<\/a> 1.15% and MTY Food Group<\/a> jumping 11.12%. WTI rose nearly US$1 to US$83 a barrel while gold climbed US$43 to a heady S$2,414.<\/p>\n\n\n\n In the U.S., June inflation numbers cooled, coming in -0.1% over the previous month as the street expected +0.1%. Year-over-year, inflation clocked in at 3.0% instead of 3.1%. The news fueled sentiment that the Fed will cut interest rates in September. However, instead of pushing stocks higher as dovish headlines did the last two days, the indices tumbled. None more so that then the tech-heavy Nasdaq which slid nearly 2%, led by heavyweight Nvidia<\/a> which sank 5.57%. Closely following were Tesla<\/a> down 8.44% and Lam Research<\/a> skidding 5.98%. In contrast, homebuilder DR Horton<\/a> rallied 7.26%. The U.S. 10-year yield continued to slip, now reaching 4.207%.
