Friday saw the release of the latest employment numbersate. The U.S. added more jobs than expected in March, while Canada’s unemployment rose to 6.1%. Despite the differing data, both markets rallied to end a rocky week. The TSX climbed 0.87% on Friday and gained 0.45% for the week. All sectors rose, particularly staples and materials. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
TD<\/a> traded the most hands but closed -0.52%, Pan American Silver<\/a> advanced 5.44%, B2gold<\/a> rallied 4.61% and Oceangold<\/a> rose 8.81% as the price of gold continued its record run, up to $2,323 an ounce. Meanwhile, WTI crude was flat around $86.75.<\/p>\n\n\n\n All sectors also gained on Wall Street where the S&P added 1% for the day but sank as much over the week. The Nasdaq climbed 1.2% on Friday and lost as much during the week. The Dow advanced 0.85% but had its worst week so far in 2024, down 2.25%. Big movers were GE<\/a>, up 5.98%, Tesla<\/a> -3.36%, Amazon<\/a> 2.75% and AMD<\/a> up 2.77%. The U.S. 10-year yield inched up to 4.4%.
