Tuesday began with the Bank of Scotia kicking off earnings season for Canadian banks. BNS<\/a>‘ quarter disappointed as loan-loss provisions were heavier than expected, and its shares tumbled 4.45%. Financials and staples were the worst performers in Toronto, but gains in materials and energy helped push the TSX into the positive by 14 points. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Other key movers were Suncor<\/a> up 1.32%, CNQ<\/a> 1.94%, Barrick<\/a> 4.97% and Interfor<\/a> -4.46%. WTI crude sank another 2% to trade at $76.40.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Wall Street also saw modest gains. The S&P added three points, the Nasdaq 0.21%, and the Dow 0.27%. Notable names were Tesla<\/a> up 4.4%, GE Healthcare Technology<\/a> at -4.22%, Disney<\/a> -2.82%, PayPal<\/a> 3.87% and Newmont<\/a> up 6.57%. The U.S. 10-year yield declined to 4.33% as Bitcoin<\/a> rose 2.5% to $38,100. At the close, news hit that investing legend, Charlie Munger, passed away at age 99. He was Warren Buffett’s long-time partner at Berkshire Hathaway.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
