On the eve of the U.S. Fed’s interest rate announcement, markets rallied Tuesday to end January in the green. On Wall Street, the S&P closed 1.46% (over 5% for the month), the Nasdaq 1.67% (1.7% in January), and the Dow 1.09%.<\/p>\n
There was green across the board, but the biggest movers included carmakers GM<\/a> up 8.32%, Ford<\/a> by 4.62% and Tesla<\/a> 3.88%, FedEx<\/a> popping 5.32% and AMD<\/a> up 3.55%, but falling further after hours on an earnings beat. The U.S. 10-year yield was 3.505% while Bitcoin<\/a> added 1% to $23,000.<\/p>\n The TSX advanced 0.8% Tuesday, but rallied 6.81% in January. During the session, all sectors except utilities rose. Materials, financials and industrials outperformed the most. Major movers here were TD<\/a> up 1.56%, Lithium Americas<\/a> soaring 13.54%, Ivanhoe Mines<\/a> by 7.48%, Athabasca Oil<\/a> up 5.78%, though Denison Mines<\/a> slid 3.08%.
