A surge in materials, real estate and utilities lifted the TSX Monday by 0.37%. Capstone Copper<\/a> jumped 15.67%, but cannabis soared after a U.S. senator hinted at marijuana reforms that would make lending to such companies easier. As a result, Canopy Growth<\/a> jumped over 20%, Tilray<\/a> nearly 10% and Aurora<\/a> 8.72%. Meanwhile, Nuvei<\/a> rallied 11.41% ahead of earnings Tuesday. In contrast, Shopify<\/a> retreated 3% and Royal Bank<\/a> dipped 1.48%. WTI added 1.5% to $90 and WCS advanced 3.6% to $71.<\/p>\n

It was a mixed picture in New York as the S&P and Nasdaq closed -0.12% and -0.1% respectively, though the Dow inched up by 0.09%.<\/p>\n

Major movers were Penn Entertainment<\/a> up 5.27%, GM<\/a> by 4.33%, Clorox<\/a> up 3.81% and Disney<\/a> gaining 2.32% ahead of earnings. Semiconductors lost ground as AMD<\/a> shaved 2% and Nvidia<\/a> sank 6.45%. Warner Bros. Discovery<\/a> extended its woes by losing 3.8%. Industrials and healthcare were strong, while many other components were mixed. Meanwhile, the U.S. 10-year yield came in at 2.754% and Bitcoin<\/a> rose 3.2% to nearly $24,000.<\/p>\n
