A rebound in crude oil helped lift the TSX by 1.1% on Monday. WTI soared $4.50 to $102 and WCS jumped $2.30 to nearly $79. Most sectors were in the green except consumer staples which lagged.<\/p>\n
Big gainers were Canopy Growth<\/a> by 15.46%, Marathon Gold<\/a> at 12.1%, Precision Drilling<\/a> 9.02% and Athabasca Oil<\/a> soaring 12.81%. Heading south were Cascades<\/a> which shed nearly 7% and Goodfood Market<\/a> down 5.15%.<\/p>\n In contrast, U.S. stocks started the week positive but faded until the S&P closed -0.84%, the Nasdaq -0.81% and the Dow -0.69%. Consumer, financials and healthcare lagged. Influential names were Apple<\/a> at -2.06%, Alphabet<\/a> (A class) -2.35%, Regeneron<\/a> -3.35%, Thermo Fisher<\/a> -3.3% and Danaher<\/a> -3.38%. Among the bright spots were Booking Holdings<\/a> up 2.27%, Goldman Sachs<\/a> adding 2.28% after a beat, Carnival<\/a> 5.12%, Nucor<\/a> 3.62% and Hess Corp<\/a>. at 4.82%.
