American traders remain optimistic (or complacent?) about the US-China trade negotiations, even though <a href=\"https:\/\/www.marketwatch.com\/story\/stocks-on-track-to-build-on-records-as-investors-remain-optimistic-on-us-china-trade-talks-2019-11-18?siteid=yhoof2&amp;yptr=yahoo\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">China<\/a> is now sending clear signals that it&#8217;s worried over Trump not rolling back tariffs. Or maybe American markets just don&#8217;t care and are lifted by the knowledge of no more interest rate hikes this year. In Toronto, the TSX was flat, though utilities and REITs like <a href=\"https:\/\/stockchase.com\/company\/view\/212\/CARUN-T\">C.A.P<\/a>. were up 1.99%. Even better, <a href=\"https:\/\/stockchase.com\/company\/view\/1726\/CGX-T\">Cineplex<\/a> popped 4.79% after knocking <a href=\"https:\/\/finance.yahoo.com\/news\/cineplex-inc-just-beat-earnings-103126980.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">EPS<\/a> out of the park by beating the street 31%. Meanwhile, <a href=\"https:\/\/stockchase.com\/company\/view\/5093\/SHOP-T\">Shopify<\/a> has been rising lately after a pullback earlier this fall. It closed Monday up 3.26% to $426.66.<\/p>\n<p>In the States, <a href=\"https:\/\/stockchase.com\/company\/view\/567\/HD-N\">Home Depot<\/a> rose to a new high in afternoon trading, with investors looking ahead to its earnings report Tuesday. Home Depot closed 0.66% higher to $238.85. In fact, a slew of earnings from American retailers like <a href=\"https:\/\/stockchase.com\/company\/view\/1239\/TJX-N\">TJX<\/a> (up 32% year-to-date) will be released Tuesday. Perhaps they will fare better than <a href=\"https:\/\/stockchase.com\/company\/view\/71\/ANF-N\">Abercrombie &amp; Fitch<\/a>, which slid 7.43% on Monday after releasing earnings. Lastly, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.investors.com\/market-trend\/stock-market-today\/dow-jones-led-by-disney-stock-nvidia-advanced-micro-devices-power-nasdaq-100\/?src=A00220&amp;yptr=yahoo\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">chipmakers<\/a> like <a href=\"https:\/\/stockchase.com\/company\/view\/894\/NVDA-Q\">NVIDIA<\/a> (up 3.96%) and <a href=\"https:\/\/stockchase.com\/company\/view\/59\/AMD-Q\">AMD<\/a> (3.42%) enjoyed a happy Monday, leading the way for the Nasdaq.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>After making new highs to end last week, Monday markets in new York inched slightly higher.
