Being acquired by Bell Canada (BCE-T). Accept the offer or just take the cash? You might as well wait for the tender offer and get the full price. If you already own BCE, you may not want to take shares, but take the cash instead. At current levels with a 5% yield, BCE is decent.

Trading at a bit of discount to what BCE had offered for the company. Expects there will be more and more consolidation in this industry. He doesn’t think there is a lot of risk to the deal not being approved.

This got bought by Bell Canada (BCE-T), but it wasn’t a great company as they had a lot of issues. If they had stayed on that path, they would have probably had to cut their dividends. Keep the Bell shares, as it is a great company, has a great dividend and continues to perform well.

There are three reasons it is trading below the offer price. You have a time value until it closes; there is the uncertainty of the regulators (3 have to approve this); and it is based on where BCE-T is trading when the deal closes, so you may not get the $40 offer price. He would sell it and let someone else have the uncertainty.

There is thinking that this will eventually get swallowed up by one of the larger telcos. The new management has done a fairly good job of restructuring and cutting costs. While you are waiting for it to be taken over, it has a decent dividend, and she doesn’t see anything negative on the horizon. It should do okay in a volatile market.

Dividend is probably more stable now that they are offloading their Allstream division. One of the problems is that they are keeping a fair amount of the pension liability on their books, even after the sale. Not a bad company, post this divestiture. Good yield which he thinks is safe. A good valuation on EBITDA.

Owns this, but also owns BCE (BCE-T) and Telus (T-T). This one is a little tricky. It has been the most volatile of the telecoms. If you are looking for a long-term, solid telecom, he would buy BCE. It is less volatile and he thinks there could be another dividend increase in the next little while.

New CEO who has a lot of experience in many different industries. They are going through a review and will have to make a decision on their dividend. The payout for a telco is too high. They also have Allstream that they have tried to sell. They could sell off the growth aspects and keep the more mature business division. There could be a 25%-30% dividend cut. He would not own the stock. If you own, wait until there is a dividend cut, and if it is enough, that would be an opportunity to either add to your position or get into the name.

Thinks Allstream has been weighing on them. Their best opportunity is to try and find a way to divest it and focus on core operations, and ultimately preserve their dividends. He estimates the 2015 payout ratio to be at 104%. You will get paid your dividend this year, but he is not so sure of the strength of the market over the next year. He wouldn’t be putting new money into this yet.

Possibility of Bell (BCE-T) taking over this company? His gut instinct says No in that the CRTC might not allow it. Looking at this company on its own merits, his Fair Market Value calculation is about $37-$38, about a 15% upside. When he buys a stock, he likes to see a lot of potential and 15% is not very much. There is a lot of overhead technical resistance at about $33.

Not much growth behind this. Has an attractive yield so if you just want to collect the dividend, you could do that. When she looks at dividend paying stocks, not only does she want to see an attractive yield in excess of 3%, but also good visibility that the dividend can grow over the next 3-4 years. She does not see that with this one.

Had thought it would divest itself of its Allstream and then become a takeover candidate. However, things have changed over the last few years. Allstream deal did not go through, blocked by the Canadian government. Still thinks it might be sold one day. Certainly doing a good job of turning it around. You really have to look at this on a standalone basis now. Management is doing a good job of turning around Allstream. They’ve recapitalized the company and paid down some of that pension debt as well. Thinks the dividend is totally safe now.
