Good dividend around 5% and they are in the right sector at the right time. This is essentially a utility. It has been outperforming the market. It will be good to hold into July.

The gold standard in green investors. Renewable energy utilities are very popular now, so there's upside potential. Meanwhile, older investors are frustrated with low interest rates and shifting to green utilities for their dividends. It's possible that money may shift away from this to growth stocks if a recession doesn't happen, but these green utility stocks still are good long-term holds. He doesn't foresee a recession now.

Short-term there'll be a modest pullback in all utilities. Don't worry about this. Instead, add more. Interest rates won't move back up quickly, perhaps not soon, and the rates directly affect utilities. If he didn't own other utilities already, he'd buy this. The space grows its dividend consistently. Utilities are good to own for the long term.

BEP preferred shares: What are the risks of a preferred vs. the regular stock? A preferred share ranks higher than a common equity. Good credit quality, but this is not a reset issue, but a perpetual. Pays a yield around 6%. It's almost like a bond instrument, higher quality than a common equity but the latter's growth trajectory.

Another utility beyond Fortis Utilities are doing well because of low interest rates. BEP has good access to capital because it's a Brookfield stock. A good, steady, long-term stock to hold. Very defensive.

Under the umbrella of Brookfield they are going to have no problem raising money. Did their first green bonds a little while ago. Just did a 50% stake acquisition in a Spanish solar company that owns solar projects. The gold standard when it comes to renewable energy utilities. Probably the largest from a market cap perspective. Dividend 5.82% plus room to grow with access to capital through Brookfield. (Analysts’ price target is $44.60)

It's a dividend play, so it trades on its yield, directly influenced by interest rate moves. Brookfield stocks are steady-eddys and they make few mistakes. BEP will benefit from lower interest rates. However, the parent stock, BAM, is the best Brookfield stock.

He loves this company. It is one of his top Canadian companies in this space. They made strategic plays because they have the Brookfield backing. They recently made a deal with TA-T, who know they have to shift away from coal. Brookfield did a clever deal involving a right to hydro assets when contracts are up for renewal. They are going to see benefits for years to come.

One of the leaders in the space. They are buying a lot of the former Sun-Edison assets and transforming into a large solar element. As part of the Brookfield brand they are run very conservatively. Great place to be long-term if interest don't go up. You kind of have to make an interest rate call.

It's fallen so far that the dividend is 7%. BEP works well for older investors who want that dividend, but don't expect big stock growth. It's a blue-chip stock in Brookfield. There's a little growth in their pipeline. With this serious pullback, there's no problem adding to your position to capture that higher dividend. This space offers less volatility than the market.

It's not effected by the cancellation of green projects in Ontario. They own a few wind turbine farms. But their management will need to bring investment dollars from other provinces, the U.S. and abroad. Ontario was set up as the leader in green energy which will turn off potential investors from investing in this space.

Likes it. Largest of the renewable energy utilities yieldcos in Canada. Because it has the backing of BAM.T it’s a bit of a safer place, especially if you’re worried about short-term political risk. Own tremendous amount of hydro, solar, wind power. Own two thermal plants that burn nat gas, so not completely fossil free. More of a dividend play. Potential for growth as assets continue to appreciate. Excited about ability to play globally. Comfortable owning for long term.

Hold? This is more of a yield play, so it doesn’t have the gyrations such as energy. It is more of a utility play. Yield of 4.42%. When you look at the seasonal chart for yield play such as this, it is really just a 45° line higher. It doesn’t show the seasonal fluctuations that was in some of the other sectors. His database shows that the optimal time to hold this is from Dec 7 to March 7 giving it 6.13% above the bench mark. Has been positive in 14 of the past 17 years. Technically, it is coming down to test the 200-day moving average and bouncing off of that level, which implies the long-term momentum is intact, and that it will continue to chart higher highs and higher lows. Pick this up more towards the December timeframe.

The dividend yield is good. All these Brookfield companies have the ability to get involved in certain types of projects and are very good at it. When they get involved in projects, you have to look at what they are paying for them and what the return expectations are. Feels these infrastructure plays are going to do well over the next little while, and these types of companies have the ability to get involved and generate some great returns. He prefers Brookfield asset management (BAM.A-T).

He would be more inclined to sell this and buy Brookfield Asset Management (BAM.A-T), because with a yield play you are going to be competing against higher rates. The attractiveness of a yield play declines when rates are rising. Thinks you can get a better return somewhere else.
