A de-caffeinated coffee company which is growing faster than the caffeinated coffee market. Driven by health trends. Over the last years they've been building a new production facility which will open up their capacity, so the company will grow. They're gaining market share and launching a sales force in Europe. They're setting themselves up for growth. Cheap shares, nice 4% yield. May have to be patient until the facility opens in Q3 2019.

This used to be an income trust. It’s not a very fast-growing business because coffee is a mature industry. The yield is under 4%, which is unattractive on a slow-growth company.

He owns 8% of the company. The company has never been doing better and the stock has never been cheaper. This is the only company in the world that does chemical-free decaffeination in large volume. One of a competing company’s plants closed in Europe and that is driving new volume to TPK. His customers are Tim Hortons, McDonald’s Canada, and several importers. The company has great margins. He’s convinced the stock will go up quite a bit by next year.

He owns 8% of the company. You have zero analyst coverage. They are the only ones in the world to do this chemical free decaffeination process. You are going to see some good volume improvement going forward. You may see some analysts starting to cover it. They need to beef up their investor relations. They have good margins and good cash flow. It has international growth potential also. It is not an expensive stock.

A coffee decaffeinater and distributor. There is a lot to like about this company. Has a pretty strong balance sheet and pays about a 4% dividend, which look sustainable. Coffee prices are falling, which means you have higher volumes and higher purchases from distributors. They’re building a new plant expansion, which won't be finished for another 1.5 years. As an investor, you’ll probably have to wait 1.5 years for things to ramp up, so you’ll have to be patient. There isn't any catalyst right now for the next leg of growth.

Unusual in that it has almost the only non-chemical decaffeination process. It needs to be acquired by someone who wants the decaffeination process. It is not dynamic and is not going to do anything gigantic. You have to be aware that in coffee there can always be a year that goes wrong.

This does green coffee decaffeination. They have some big customers such as Tim Hortons, so there are some concentration risks being at the mercy of these companies. The real story is the plant expansions they are doing. In mid to late 2018, they are essentially building a new facility to help the company grow a bit more. The problem is that investors are kind of stuck waiting for 1-1.5 years for something to really happen. The dividend is nice. Half market cap is in cash. A situation where the management needs to step up and throw the investors a bone to keep them interested for the next year. Not a bad name, but you could revisit this in 6-9 months and are maybe not going to miss out on too much.

(A Top Pick March 22/16. Down 27%.) Got a little ahead of itself. Last week they came out with record 4th quarter results after some lumpiness through the year, caused by delays in orders by clients. Came out with a solid $.46 EPS for the year under the new accounting standards, which really measures the true profitability of the company. There are high barriers to entry. The only global company that can process 100% organic, chemical free, decaffeinated coffee. They are now exporting all over the world.

They use a chemical free process for their decaffeinated coffee, which is winning a lot of customers. Tim Hortons is a client. A classic scenario where a company grows very, very fast, and is a thin a trader and relatively cheap. The stock did very, very well, and then they missed an earnings result. Down at these levels, it is much more attractive than it was. He likes it more now, but it is still kind of risky, but better than it was a year ago.

A coffee bean decaffeinater. The recent quarter wasn’t that strong. They saw regional market volumes dropping, about 20% this quarter, which have dropped in past quarters as well. Their national accounts, such as McDonald’s and Tim Hortons volumes, are actually increasing. Coffee prices are rising currently, so a lot of buyers are deferring coffee purchases. In theory, it should all work itself through. He thinks the real focus is out to 2018. They are building a new processing plant to help improve capacity. You have 6 months before a whole lot is going to happen. It may be a good tax-loss selling candidate, and then returning to it in 6 months.

Organic-based coffee. Their real advantage is the relationship with customers. They are in McDonald’s and Tim Hortons, but haven’t penetrated those customers to the full extent. There was an investigation into one of their competitors, which is always good. Had a big run, but has not checked back and looks very attractive.

This is a name that he really wants to like. However, there are a few things holding him back. One is customer buying power. They have some national accounts that are very large which can swing the results on any given quarter based on the volumes they need. The other issue is that it sort of serves as a subset of a subset of a market. On the positive side, a Mexican competitor just had their FDA Green certification stripped. 2018 is what you have to look out to. They are building a new production facility in the BC area. It is okay to own, but you are just going to have to tuck it away until the new plant is built and then wait 6 months.

Had bought this because of its decaf exposure, which doesn’t have the chemicals in the decaffeination process. It now looks like it is in a “show me” mode, as to whether the investment they were going to do with the proceeds from their issue come to fruition. That is what he is waiting for. Small-cap names can be volatile. Dividend yield of 3%.

The world’s only decaffeinater of coffee that uses a chemical free water process. This is one of his top holdings. Very inexpensive for a company that is a global leader in decaffeinating on an organic and chemical free basis. They are growing tremendously with large accounts, such as Tim Hortons and McDonald’s (MCD-N) and a lot of specialty coffee shops that are going organic and higher quality. There is tremendous growth ahead. Will be building a 2nd plant in Vancouver this year, in order to double their capacity.

Canada doesn’t have a lot of great consumer product companies, so when one starts to emerge, people tend to take a closer look at it. This one had a few things, such as foreign exchange and coffee prices, that have been working in their favour. Not sure if results going forward are going to be quite as strong. Given the scarcity of good little companies, he thinks this one is going to continue to do well. Not overly expensive at this time. ROE is not quite what he is looking for, but is still pretty decent. Has been on his radar screen.

In a strong growth position now. Their decaf, which is chemical free and organic, is the only one that can use the words Swiss Water in it. They supply big chains like Tim Hortons and McDonald’s in Canada. They are just starting with McDonald’s USA. There is a whole 3rd wave of specialty coffee retailers developing in the US. They have perfected their technology so that you cannot tell the difference between decaf and caffeinated anymore. They are not able to retain the caffeine and resell it, but if they were ever able to do that, it would be icing on the cake. Thinks they can easily do $10 million EBITDA. A very unique, high margin, high barrier to entry, pre-cash flow generating company, that is going to be building a new plant and doubling its capacity. Dividend yield of 3.29%.

Good company. Last year was one of those years where everything that could go right went right. Wait and see a couple of quarters to see what happens. There are 2 things. The use of proceeds from their financing, and wait and see a couple of normal quarters when not everything in terms of coffee prices, etc. is going their way. There is a good chance that down the road he will be owning this.

A pretty good company. In terms of ROE, he is looking for 20% and this is around 16%-17%. You have to be a little careful as their financial results for the last 5 or 6 quarters is where everything that could have gone right has gone right. Whether they can maintain this level of profitability is questionable. He would guess that there is a financing coming, so wait to see what they use the proceeds for. If they buy some kind of an interesting kind of tack-on coffee business, it could be a nice up and coming consumer name.
