He thinks there is an opportunity with this one as the light oil differentials will compress again soon. The company sells into the Cromer market, where differentials are much tighter. This translates to high-quality valuations at a good discount. He expects steady eddy growth.

ALA-T vs. TOG-T He hopes oil prices move up, but the problem with many energy stocks is that they are already properly priced, including ALA-T and TOG-T, so there's little upside. He's neutral about both stocks and this sector.

He has a fundamental screener and he thinks it screens well. This is following a similar trend that he sees in many energy sector stocks at the moment. He thinks there are better oil sands based companies to choose from. He likes the new recent high. He likes the oil and gas sector. He expects WTI to be over $70 by year end. He would set a $7 exit price with an upper objective near $9. (Analysts’ price target is $10)

(A Top Pick Apr 5/17, Down 6.73%) It would have been terrible to be here in June of last year. They under promise and over deliver. This is a core way to dabble in energy.

Cardinal Energy (CJ-T) vs Torc Oil & Gas (TOG-T). Very different companies. Cardinal is a medium gravity producer. They are 60% exposed. They are going to lower their debt. They can pay the 10% yield and that is sustainable. He would buy Cardinal Energy (CJ-T) vs Torc Oil & Gas (TOG-T).

She really likes the management team. The dividend is safe. She would recommend something like this to dip your toe back in the energy sector.

(Market Call Minute.) Great company with a good management team. Has a sustainable dividend, but the growth rate plus the dividend is too boring to attract the next incremental dollar.

The 1st place this is going to run into resistance is at around $7.80, so there is a lot of upside left. It should start pushing onto $9.15. It's a good stock to own right now.

This company runs a very good shop when it comes to keeping the cost structure low and declines in check. The team is at the top of his list. He is looking for a little more torque to the coming inflection and sentiment towards oil, so would rather find names that are a little more beaten down. Dividend yield of 3.7%, which is sustainable at today’s oil prices.

The fact that it is above $6.18, just a little above the 200-day moving average, it is going to go higher. The whole sector is looking really good. The chart shows the downtrend has broken.

He likes oil. At some point money is going to leave technology and come into unloved sectors. This one is relatively safe. The management and board are focusing on free cash flow and increasing the dividend, which is decent now but could get bigger. Dividend yield of 3.9%. (Analysts’ price target is $8.50.)

Pretty much 100% leveraged to oil, so where oil goes, so goes this company. They’ve done a very good job of working on the land acreage in Saskatchewan, and exporting and using new technology to get the oil out. So far, they’ve hit every milestone they’ve targeted and keeps the balance sheet reasonably clean. He believes in management and this is worth holding. Believes oil will get back to $55-$60 by the end of this year. There should be good upside in this company.

A great management team. They are able to grow production down to about $45 oil, and continue to pay their dividend. High quality assets and pretty good inventory life, but their growth rate isn’t sexy enough to get investors to stampede back in. He expects to make his money from services in his US R&P, and plow profits back into Canada maybe later this year or early 2018.

A big underperformer when compared to its peers, like a Whitecap (WCP-T), Bonterra (BTR-X) or a Surge (SGY-T). It has probably underperformed the group by at least 15%-20% in the last year, which makes no sense. A well-regarded management team. High margin, low cost oil producer. A very consistent performer. Dividend yield of 3.49%. (Analysts’ price target is $10.)
